1, 2014, the Affordable Care Act prohibits group health plans from including a waiting period to receive health coverage that exceeds 90 calendar days. Department of Labor published final regulations addressing the waiting period limit in February 2014, which are available here.

Under the final rule, after an individual is determined to be otherwise eligible for coverage under the terms of the plan, any waiting period may not extend beyond 90 days, and all calendar days are counted beginning on the enrollment date, including weekends and holidays.
